Memory Foam Mattress Is Viscoelestic
Another name for Memory Foam Mattress is visco-elestic polyurethane foam because it is made from polyurethane and other materials which contribute to increase the density and viscosity level of the mattress. The most vital properties of Memory foam mattress are its ability to remain firm, and soft. The lower and higher densities of the memory foam have the ability of molding itself to the shape of the body.
The origin and history of the memory foam goes back to the 1970's when NASA's Ames Research Center was given a project to create something that could aid the astronauts in getting relieve from the g-forces which they usually experience during lift-off process. The idea was that foam could be used to reduce the g-forces due to its ability to mould itself into the shape of the person easily. So, in order to give practical implementation to this idea a visco-elastic foam material was used that had the ability to conform into the person's shape and thus result in the even distribution of weight, and retain its normal shape after the pressure has been removed from the foam.
The implementation of the idea of the memory foam was done by one of the Europe's largest from producing companies known as Fagerdala World Foams of Sweden in 1980's. A Swedish Mattress Company called Tempur-Pedic succeeded in producing foam mattress in 1991. Mattress companies in Canada and America launched their foam mattress after the overwhelming success of Tempur-Pedic.
